Wikis are a Web 2.0 application that allows multiple individuals to create Web pages.
Wikis are created with the collaboration of many people and can continue to be edited to reflect the most up to date information. The most commonly heard of Wiki is probably
Wikipedia, an online fee Wiki encyclopedia. Most
Wikis are used to gather information or data and as a community forum.
Most Importantly Wikis- are a collaborative tool
- simple to create and edit
- can be used as a tech tool in education
- allow for more accurate information with time
I have not used a Wiki in a classroom in which I've taught in before. I have however used them in my ED Tech courses here at
UAS. I believe that
Wikis can successfully be integrated into the classroom. I think it is best to decide early on to try a few of the new tools we are learning in class and become proficient in their use, and then continue to add the other tools on top of them. I would enjoy using
Wikis for specific content subjects, for example; Language Arts, Science, and History. As easy as
Wikis are to use, there is no real reason not to incorporate them into ones tech tool bag.
